Today began at 0500 for me as we had our Army Physical Fitness Test.It is standard for the US Army and consists of 3 catagories of fitnessush-ups,sit-ups and a 2 mile run.All I want to say is that I could have done better and am resolved to do better next time!Soon,I will be enjoying a 4 day pass in Virginia at the Augusta Military Academy re-union where I went to military school in the mid 1970's.For some reason-and I really don't know why-my mind keeps going back to that military academy[AMA].It was a time of hard work, discipline and learning in a very structured environment. It's true I do love the military, sports and working hard for good moral goals. These were part of my life at AMA.Some of the cadets and faculty were definitely un-forgettable.Later, I would like to write more details about my experiances, but also I long to write[and dream] about a military school that might have been! I think of how important and vital the Bible is in education and daily practical application. How wonderful and honoring to God if only AMA or some military academy could be like that.AMA was forced to close in '84 because of lack of funds. But in reality,it was lack of adherence to Christian values/morals that caused this once fine school to fall and collapse. Our founding Fathers of the USA recognized that God must be acknowledged as Lord and that "unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain that build it..."[Psa.127].In summary, I think of the good structure of rules and code of conduct that AMA had [and there were a number of cadets that honored and repected these rules]but so many chose to disobey or bend the code and rules that it became discouraging to those of us who sought to obey. There should have been unity, courtesy, even kindness and brotherly love; but sadly this was very much lacking.I am acutely aware that the 60's and 70's brought tremendous sweeping changes in American life that simply became anti-Christian and sinful. It was especially painful in my own family[7 children:I'm the youngest],that the immorality that swept America brought terrible divisions in families and produced a sky-rocketing divorce rate.I went to AMA because I wanted to,and in fact, begged my parents to go there.Sadly, many cadets came from broken homes or had other problems and they were sent to military school against their will. There's so much more I would like to write but it will have to wait.Somehow, like Joseph's dreams,I see and even have faith to be a part of Christian education that would be so effective and even along military lines that the Lord Jesus Christ would truly be Lord.
