Holocaust Remembrance Day
I believe it's a good idea to have a day of remembrance set aside. In context,we should all keep in mind:1] the many who fought for freedom on all fronts;2]The 5 million Gentiles who perished with the 6 million Jews in the various camps;3]the many who died under the cruelty of Imperial Japan. Actually,I hope that they will include all terrible persecutions [such as the Armenian people by the Turks,etc.].The days continue on and blend. The 2 churches I have been involved with have been a blessing. My 2 churches in Minnesota have also been a comfort and blessing.Last Sunday at the country Bapt.Ch. 2 soldiers followed the Lord in believer's baptism. They had both made decisions for salvation and came forward in church at the invitation within the last 2 weeks. I am really pleased and encouraged with the Sat/Sun bus ministry on base.My co-workers are dedicated and truly love the Lord, with the desire for souls to be saved!I'm keeping up with daily prayers and Bible reading.I have been reading a big thick book on the US Navy in WWII,"The Two Ocean War" by Adm.S.E.Morison.He condensed his book from from a 15 volume[!] history of US Naval operations in WWII. It's really impressive and well written.Much of what I have read has been a merely a review of what I have learned long ago.Still, I was reminded of how effective the Jap.navy was and in particular, their lethal "Long Lance" torpedoes launched from their destroyers. However,in both the Pacific and European theatres of war, what I have found most interesting is the "awe" of air power. That was the whole reason for the "island hopping" across the Pacific to Japan that eventually resulting in the dropping of the A-bombs which ended the war.My own father, being a B-17 pilot, was involved with air power on the other side of the World in Europe. As I grow older I find that I can't read as fast as I used to and if it's late at nite; I end up falling a sleep! I am hoping to get thru a bunch of WWII books that I have and then in turn, donate them to the new base library.Last summer I had a very nice time reading outside, particularly at Lake Lemon near Bloomington.
