Easter Weekend
Praise the Lord the Army gave us 4 full days free this weekend! I was released last Thurs about noon[4/13].It was a beautiful Spring day.I was still a little tired from the APFT on Wed but otherwise OK.Fri.am I left after breakfast going back to So.Indiana.I stopped in Bedford and attended a Good Friday service at the 1st Bapt.Ch.and met Bro.Manley of Evangelistic Faith Missions.I had heard him preach on the radio station[WBRI]and I was curious about what EFM and it's doctrine.I was pleased to hear that they are very Biblical.Bro.Manley and his co-worker graciously invited me to lunch but I had to decline to get back on the road.I drove to the crossroads town of Paoli where I had stopped earlier during my leave and as is my custom, headed right for the old Carnigie library in the town square.I had started to read Col.Francis Gabreski's autobiography,"Gabby" 2 weeks earlier and so I settled down in the children's area in the basement and finished the book.I love stories by and about fighter pilots! I was even able to stretch out and they did'nt mind."Gabby" was the highest scoring USA ace in the ETO in WWII.An interesting man whose parents came from Poland and he was a very devout Ro.Cath.I read stories and books about his fellow pilots of his fighter group, the famed 56th,"Zemke's Wolfpack."I just finished "Gabby" and then the library closed at 1730 so I continued south in my trusty KIA Sephia[w/recently acquired new tires!].Just before coming to the archabbey of St.Meinrad's I founded a secluded spot to park, stretch out in my car and spend the night.I slept fine.I arrived about 0600 having gained an hr going to CST.I had a nice peaceful time there and it was a reminder of what I had been saved from and Who I had been saved to.The architecture was very beautiful and the surrounding rich verdant hills and trees gave an artist's touch.I spent the rest of the day at Lincoln's boyhood home where I had been 2 weeks earlier. The day was sunny, warm and Spring-like. I walked the trails and saw basically the same scenes that Abe Lincoln saw and experianced.I saw his mother's grave;the foundation of the Lincoln cabin home;a replica of what it was like and the beauiful white stone National Park building where they have a museum, film on Lincoln's life,a hall for Nancy Hanks and a sort of church hall.It really was worth spending the whole day as he was my favorite president.I saw the 20 min.film 3 times! I had a nice time meditating on Lincoln's life and times. I also spent time with the Lord in prayer. From there I drove back along country roads and even stopped in a little town where a United Methodist Church was having a revival.I attended for about an hour.I was encouraged with their desire to know and follow the Lord.I was very tired and worried about falling asleep on the dark country roads.I was relieved to get back on I65 going north.I stopped at a rest stop south of Columbus about 2300hrs and only 15 mi from Atterbury but I just conked out and slept til 0530.I arrived on base about 0600 relieved and grateful to God to be back safe.As my custom I went strait to bldg333 and listened to sermon via I-net.Even now I am listening to WCTS[Christian radio station in MN]coming from another pc.Well, here I am Monday the last day of a nice vacation."Great is Thy Faithfulness" is playing.God comforts me.How I long to serve Him.Must finish later and relate the trip to Ohio and No.Indiana on the next entry!
